Where is love in the palm grove?

is the title of a documentary showing tonight on Arte, set in Skoura, not far from Ouarzazate. It talks about relationships between girls and boys in traditional Morocco, and how to find a wife…

And the photo illustrating it on the Arte website is strangely reminiscent of one of my own, taken a little further south:

This documentary takes a very fair, modest and respectful look. Even though the director is a ‘Gaouri’ (foreigner, in this case a Belgian), he has managed to gain acceptance and elicit confidences.

I find it particularly interesting to also see the point of view of the men, for whom things are not always easy either.

So where is the love? As everywhere, above all in the dreams and hopes of men and women. And in the secrecy of bedrooms, when it’s there.
