Morocco has switched to summer time for the first time.
Not exactly a success in practice, as Moroccans did not change the time in their daily lives. And even some public clocks. I can’t remember what our first time change in Europe was like?
As a good disciplined European, I changed my watch, one hour less instead of the usual two hours. And I started to feel out of step. Moroccans are still attached to solar time, which is also prayer time. A few missed appointments, fortunately not too bad.
On the other hand, plane timetables are set to the new time.
This will change again on 31 August with the end of the summer holidays on 27 September at the end of the trial period, or perhaps even on 31 August.
So if you’re about to leave, make sure you specify “official time“!
Update (certainly not the last), 28 August: according to the distinguished Fhamator, a wise Moroccan blogger, it would appear that the relevant ministry, or at least one of them, has decided not to change anything. It’s true that not changing anything about something that nobody takes into account is no big deal… except for those who fly!
Anyway, this post is on stand-by until 2 September.
