The pomegranate, Taremmanente or Taremmant ⵜⴰⵕⴻⵎⵎⴰⵏⵜ in amazigh, is the quintessential late summer fruit. In Morocco, it can be found until the beginning of winter.
A game for pitting fruit, a refreshing delight in the mouth.
Grenadiers are found in orchards and palm groves, bushy trees that hide their ‘grain apples’, perhaps to protect them from greedy children…

And a proverb,
An sabd’ey taremmanente ‘We’re going to burst this grenade’ is a much nicer way of saying ‘letting the cat out of the bag’.

Splitting open the pomegranate is also a quicker way to peel it!
There are two types of pomegranates: those that are eaten as fruit, which are sweeter, and those that are used for juice, which are more tart.
And the funny thing is, there’s no way to tell whether a pomegranate will be good or not without opening it.
In Arabic, pomegranate is called ‘Arrouman’ ( رمان ) (Roumanatoun, with a solar initial, for connoisseurs).
