The now closed Dom Piri-Piri, which was located at Place des Iris and used to treat Bernard and me with its piri-piri chicken, reopened in May 2021 in a different location, under a different name, but still with the same simple and tasty menu.
A UFO in the Casablanca gastronomic landscape, as I believe it is the only Portuguese restaurant, Dom Petiscos masters to perfection the art of piri-piri marinade and chicken grilling.
Piri-piri sauce is a marinade made from small chillies (piri-piri, in fact) and lemon juice, in which the chillies are cooked for a long time. There are several versions in the “Portuguese world” (e.g. Angola), Dom Petiscos’ version is carefully kept secret. You have to marinate just enough for it to taste good, without tearing your mouth off! The grilled chicken has a beautiful red colour reminiscent of tandoori, the technique is totally different.
The menu also includes a very fine octopus salad as a starter, traditional fritters, a feijoada, chicken, salmon and beef croquettes to make a tapas meal. Codfish! (not to be found in Morocco, if you know where you can find dried cod…) and for dessert the very tasty pastei de natas, this melt-in-your-mouth speciality of small flans seasoned with cinnamon that you can enjoy without hunger.
Ordering from Dom Petiscos
The changes don’t make it ‘easy’. Dom Piri-Piri is still present at Glovo, but is “temporarily closed”. The website says that you can order “soon”, in reality you have to phone and the order has to be collected on the spot (so you send a Glovo to collect it… it doesn’t change much).
The map on the website doesn’t include the prices, but you can see them on the Facebook page, so I’ve uploaded the two images: first part and second part of the map. With the change, prices have risen sharply (pasteis de nata, for example, have gone from 45 dirhams to 50 dirhams per two), and we are starting to be in a high price range. It’s a shame, the old Dom Piri-Piri combined quality with a moderate bill, and the tapas on offer are, in Portugal, budget dishes.
The liquor licence and hotel accommodation probably explain this.

Finally, there is another Dom Petiscos in Rabat, with a slightly different menu.
