All posts about Nador

<Nador, capital of the Eastern Rif, is a "mountain Berber" town. The culture of the Rif is a curious mix, of reserve and traditionalism, autonomy (cf. the Rif war, against the Spanish), trafficking of all kinds (cannabis, but also smuggling petrol and cigarettes with Algeria), austerity.

Although the region has begun to develop, it is poor, and suffered from the abandonment of central power under the reign of Hassan II. A big push is now being given to the development of the Oriental, and Nador is benefiting.

Nador lives from agriculture and fishing, as well as the port traffic of Beni Ansar (passenger and goods). A free trade zone is planned.

The city is very proud of its Berber culture. Rifain (tarifit) is widely spoken here, and the municipality has introduced bilingual road signs.

The climate here is rudimentary.

The climate here is harsh: summers are very hot (often over 40°) and dry, with little or no rain. Winters are often quite cold, and very rainy. In fact, a few years ago, Nador was the scene of serious flooding.
