In a street in the heart of Casablanca, just behind the central market and close to the very soon to be renovated Lincoln hotel, La Bodega is a Spanish tapas restaurant-bar.
Its name, in Spanish, simply means ‘small bistro’. There are other bistros, bars and restaurants in the same street, including La Bavaroise, from the same Restopro group.
The dining area is on the ground floor, while the basement has been converted into a bar. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, with a decor that combines wood, wrought iron chairs and a cement tiled floor typical of Casablanca architecture.
The menu offers a selection of tapas, a few grilled dishes (meat and fish) and starters that are more substantial versions of classic tapas (such as garlic prawns). There are also cheese and charcuterie platters, including a platter of hallal charcuterie.
The wine and spirits list is extensive, with Moroccan, French (the largest section) and international (Argentina, etc) wines, beers and a variety of cocktails. Including a few non-alcoholic cocktails.
Every Wednesday evening, there’s jazz entertainment starting at 10pm.
It’s also a restaurant for ‘football fans’, where you can come and watch football matches with friends, in a guaranteed atmosphere.
The restaurant has the advantage of being open on Sunday evenings, which is not the case with many of its competitors.
Prices are ‘average’, depending on the wines or spirits chosen. The range of tapas for two, which we tried, was plentiful, for less than 300 dirhams.
And, a nice touch in this crowded neighbourhood, it has a valet parking service.
