Located in the centre of Casablanca, under the dome of the same name, the Zevaco passage was renovated and reopened to the public in December 2021, under its real name of Al Kora Al Ardia (The Globe).
It serves as a passageway under the busy boulevard Moulay Hassan I, between the “Place des Nations Unies” tram station on one side and the Regency Hyatt hotel on the other.
It cost the city 35 million dirhams to renovate. The passage was supposed to house shops and restaurants, but the kiosks are hopelessly closed and dusty.
Apart from its practicality, its only interest is its ԁеѕсеnt on the tramway side, with plenty of flower-bedecked steps and benches for a pleasant pose beneath the imposing silhouette of the BMCI headquarters.
It’s a shame, because the original version of the work by Jean-François Zevaco was much more colourful and had a small fountain at its centre. This was in 1975…
