Since April 1 (no, it’s not a joke), the Ministry of Equipment and Transport has introduced a system for booking appointments online to register for the driving test.
This system, which has become compulsory for driving schools, should make it possible to better regulate the flow of applicants and, above all, to avoid the practice of allowing certain late applicants to take the test before others.
For foreigners resident in Morocco, possession of a Moroccan driving licence is compulsory after one year.
This can be done in two ways:
- by exchanging the national driving licence for a Moroccan driving licence, without any examination other than the medical examination, when your country has an reciprocation agreement with Morocco
- by taking another Moroccan driving test and keeping your national driving licence.
The second solution has several advantages in the medium term:
- it avoids having to repeat the exchange when you return to your country of origin
- it also avoids being considered as a new driver when you hire a car (or even simply being able to hire a car, because in some countries hire companies refuse Moroccan licences).
The Moroccan driving licence, which used to be a paper licence with pink flaps, like the old French licence, is now being replaced by a credit-card-sized licence, which is harder to forge.
