Renovation of Mohammed V airport disrupts internal connections
A new terminal is under construction. It already handles international flights, but domestic departures are still handled in the old terminal.
While the new terminal has been completely refurbished, with shops, cafés and beautiful lights…., the old terminal has been completely neglected. ONDA had the excellent idea of closing down all the shops and the small restaurant on the first floor, so what’s left is a small bar with four or five tables, metal coffee chairs and no separation between smokers and non-smokers.
A dream when there’s a six-hour connection to Ouarzazate, the one that lands at 11.50pm… when there aren’t any delays.
There are three possible solutions:
- Leave the airport and go to Casa, which is relatively easy with the train in the terminal, which leaves every half hour, taking about 15 minutes to get to the centre (Casa Voyageurs). But it’s not very practical if you happen to have heavy hand luggage (as there are no luggage lockers).
- Have a business ticket. In this case, you are entitled to use RAM’s V.I.P. lounge, the only area still open to passengers in the old terminal.
- Go through customs at the new terminal, and stay in the arrivals area, with the refreshment stands.
Or simply avoid the connections at Casablanca.
Direct connections to Marrakesh and to Agadir are frequent, provided by low-costs and middle-costs. And the train connection from the airport to Marrakesh is sometimes quicker than the connection.
We can pick you up at the airport without difficulty, and make the trip to Ouarzazate even more enjoyable with a visit to the Kasbah of Telouet.
Parking meters and street wardens
Parking meters are springing up all over Casa. Concessioned to a private company, the clogs are springing up very quickly.
At the same time, a clog costs 30 dirhams, which is still a reasonable price for a day or two’s parking.
That doesn’t mean that the small trade of street wardens has disappeared. They are rarer, but they are still there to help you park, keep an eye on your car… and put money back into the machine for you.
The price is 2 dirhams an hour. Depending on the machine, you can pay less, and be satisfied with half an hour, or not. But there’s no time limit.
In short, the trouble has started, but it’s still viable.
