In 2009, Morocco is reintroducing summer time, which was tried out in 2008. But the dates, which are significantly different from those in Europe, mean that travellers are likely to encounter complications.
In Morocco, summer time really is summer time. Unlike here, where it comes into force at the beginning of spring, Moroccan summer time will come into force on 1 June, until 20 August (this time, unlike last year, the impact of Islam - Ramadan has been taken into account.
It’s not a simple matter.
Daylight saving time in Europe begins on 29 March 2009.
So, until 29 March, there is a one-hour time difference between Morocco and Europe.
From 29 March to 31 May, there is a two-hour time difference.
From 1 June to 20 August, one hour.
And from 20 August until the end of summer time, two hours again.
I wonder if, when Ramadan takes place entirely in summer, in 2010, Morocco will introduce the time change for just two months? Or will there be years with and years without daylight saving time?
