The Berber word for winter is Tagrest. It is a harsh season in the mountains, which begins with the period of the forty lyali, the coldest nights of the year.

In mountainous regions or areas with a semi-continental climate, Moroccan winters are particularly cold, much colder than one might imagine when thinking of the beaches of Agadir.

Semi-continental or desert climate... much of Morocco is cold in winter, and even very cold. While the snow-covered mountain landscapes are splendid, you mustn't forget the isolated villages.
