The denial issued yesterday by Mohamed El Amrani, Marjane’s CEO, is clear: Marjane has not stopped selling alcohol, only in 16 of its 32 hypermarkets. This move is reportedly linked to “a new strategy for the chain’s organisation” – in other words, a division of the stores into two categories: those “selling alcohol” and those “not selling alcohol”.
However, no details have been provided about this strategy. And unfortunately, given the appalling state of the marjane.ma website, there is no way of finding out which the sixteen shops are, so we cannot even begin to understand.
